Apps aren’t hard to find (unless you’re looking in the Windows App store,) but good apps aren’t so easy. A lot of free apps aren’t even worth the time it takes to install on your phone or mobile device. So here’s a quick round-up of our favorite apps from the past few months:

SoundHound

SoundHound

SoundHound, one of the quickest music recognition apps out there, is the perfect tool for alleviating all the musical mysteries in your life. With the help of this innovative invention, users can quickly access all sorts of information pertaining to the song in question, including the artist name and song title. Additionally, this handy app will even provide the user with real-time song lyrics that will follow along with the tune that’s currently playing.  Click here to read the full App review for SoundHound [1].

Tip Calculator

Tip Calculator

Whether you’re devouring a gourmet dish at a fine dining establishment or grabbing some grub at a local diner with friends, having the right tool to help you tip your server appropriately can really come in handy. Good news, fellow iPhone users! There IS an app for that! Tip Calculator, by iHandy Inc., is an awesome tool to have anytime you plan on going out to eat. For those of you who are mathematically-challenged (like me!), Tip Calculator can save you valuable time and effort when calculating tip amounts. TV Guide Mobile

In today’s worldof digital TV, cable and satellite it’s impossible to have any idea what is on TV anymore without some kind of guide. Even basic over the air digital TV now has multiple channels per network. TV Guide Mobile is the best solution I’ve found to finding out what’s on TV and keeping track of what you want to watch without paying for a subscription to a guide magazine or service. Epocrates

How amazing would it be to be able to carry around a full drug information database, interaction checker, medical calculator and medical reference suite used by the top doctors in the world for free? Epocrates offers an amazing app for iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Windows Phone which lets you do all that and more!  Let’s say your doctor prescribes Lovastian to you and you’re wondering if the drug has any interactions with drugs you’re already on. Well, your doctor should have checked, but they are human, so they may have missed something. With Epocrates, all you need to do is tap on interaction check and enter in your medications – including the newly prescribed Lovastian – to see the possible interactions. Scanner Radio

Listening to police and fire scanners can be interesting and sometimes a little scary. You could spend around $100 to buy a scanner and listen to calls in your area, or you could download Scanner Radio for free and listen to calls on over 3600 police and fire scanners in the United States and Australia on your phone or tablet. You can check out the top 50 most popular scanner frequencies and set up a list of your favorites. I’ve especially enjoyed listening to calls involving crocodiles in Australia.  This app doesn’t only monitor police and fire frequencies, you can listen in on air traffic, weather and railroad audio.
