Flipboard – an App for iOS, Android and the web that allows you to read electronic editions of magazine and newspaper content is adding some big names to the lineup of titles.
The company announced the addition of Time Inc., People, InStyle and Fortune to the lineup starting December 1st.
Time Inc is the largest publisher to join Flipboard’s platform.
The reading experience of each magazine is designed to be a little different to reflect each publications brand and the look of the print copy of the magazines.
Full page advertising will be available for sale and those ads will be shareable on social media. Gucci has already signed on to be a launch partner for fashion and celebrity lifestyle magazine InStyle.
The demand for Time Inc.’s mobile content has grown exponentially this year, from celebrity and style content to breaking news,” said Fran Hauser, President, Digital, Time Inc Style & Entertainment Group. “If you look at the enormous built-in following and influence our brands carry, and combine it with Flipboard’s ability to showcase our content and photography so beautifully and make it more discoverable, this is a great place for us to be.”
The Flipboard app is free to download in the Google Play, Apple App store or at Flipboard.com. The app allows to compile content from multiple sources into a digital magazine that focuses on the things you’re interested and share them via social media with other readers. You can even title and create your own “magazine” by adding a title to the collection of content that interests you.
There is a lot of free content available, but full access to content for some publications like The New York Times, requires an additional digital subscription to that publication.
With magazine sales fading fast and print magazines shutting down every week, publishers are no doubt hoping that a transition to digital platform could help revive the industry.
