Popular movie app Flixster is now available to Xbox LIVE subscriber in the United States.  Users will also have access to their UltraViolet movie collections and access to movie ratings from Rotten Tomatoes. Flixster joins Amazon Instant Video, Crackle, epix, ESPN, GameSpotTV, Hulu Plus, Netflix and other video services along with multiple music services and, of course, games.

An Xbox live membership costs $59.99 per year, but the costs of video services like Netflix and Amazon Prime are not included. Those services must be purchased separately.

It’s all part of a push by Microsoft to make Xbox live a leading premium entertainment service. There are 46 million Xbox live subscribers.  Google is also pushing to become a premium entertainment service with the implementation of Google Fiber, which also features pay TV options that compete with cable and satellite offerings. You can learn more about Google Fiber’s plan to take on cable and satellite providers by clicking here [1]. Microsoft is expected to introduce a new Xbox console in May. That device is rumored to have no optical drive and expected to require users to remain connected to the Internet to play.
