Font, Color and Highlighting Html Tips

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010 by | Filed Under: Web Design

It’s useful to know how some simple HTML codes can change text styles (like the ones controlling fonts and their visual features) as they are added to the web pages.

Let’s begin our discussion with a simple HTML script which would create a text paragraph.

Assume you are going to make a new web page containing a short text line using the Times New Roman font.

This code can be used:
<font face=”Times New Roman” size=”6”>Hello and welcome to my web page.

After adding this code to your page and saving the work, the completed page viewed on browsers will look like this.

The higher the number selected in the size box, the larger the font will been seen. Now, one great idea would be changing the font type to Arial and at the same time replacing the default black word color with red to add some pizazz. Please use the following code sample for this purpose:
Hello and welcome to my web page.
and the finished work would generate this view.

As you can see, in the HTML world, colors are represented by some digits and letters, and by searching the net you can also find hundreds of standard color codes to use while writing. The next step is to play with the highlighting option because using this trick will allow you to highlight any parts of your written phrases within seconds. Via the following code, the sentence written would get covered using the yellow color:
<span style=”background-color: #FFFF00”>Hello and welcome to my web page.
. The visual representation would be as follows.

In addition to the fonts like Times New Roman and Arial, there are other standard and web compatible writing systems to use while building. A popular and compatible choice is the Verdana font. Let’s use it as the default font and then choose the Italics and Underlining text effects to decorate the text line in a cool style. Please check out the following code sample:
Hello and welcome to my web page.
And that would look like this:
