If you are among the millions who received an Android Tablet for Christmas, I’ve got some suggestions for some fun, free games that you might enjoy. You can find these games in the Google Play store, which you can access by tapping the icon for the store on your tablet. It looks like this.
Now if your Android Tablet happened to be a Kindle, you’ll want to look in the Amazon App Store.
First up on my list is Words With Friends. It’s a Scrabble-like game that lets you play with friends or with random opponents. What I like best is that you play at your own pace with as many or as few friends as you choose. You can make a move once a day or sit down and play a whole game with a friend within an hour. My husband and I sometimes play a game sitting in the same room, but I also play with friends and relatives in other states, even other countries.
You can find friends to play with using Facebook and Twitter. The download is free, but you will see ads and they do try to sell you bonus items. If the ads bug you, you can pay to upgrade to the ad-free version for $2.99. But the good news is that you don’t need the paid version or to buy “extras” to succeed at this game.
Another game I enjoy is Draw Something 2, which is similar to Pictionary. In this game, you use the your finger or a stylus to draw on the touch screen. The game gives you a clue and you try to draw something that makes it easy for the person your playing with to guess what it is.
My drawings are more like stick figures than masterpieces, but it’s still a lot of fun. You can play with your friends or be paired with random opponents. You can share your work via social media or choose to turn off the social functions. Just like Words With Friends, there is the option to buy paid content that gives you additional colors and drawing tools.
I was a huge fan of The Sims when it first came out on PC. In fact I might have suffered from a bit of a Sims Addiction around the turn of century. Sims FreePlay gives you all the power of controlling the lives of those tiny virtual humans right in the palm of your hand.
You create a Sim and set control their career and life choices while trying to meet their needs. You can design their dream home, let your Sims get married, have children and visit the Sims created by your real-life friends. I will warn you, it can be incredibly addictive.
Many of my friends are completely addicted to SongPop. You can challenge your friends to name that tune in music genres ranging from Classic Rock to Rap to Country to current hits. There are over 300 genres to guess from.
The goal is to be able to listen to snippet of music and guess it faster than your friends.
So whether words, music, drawing or just controlling tiny virtual people are your thing, there’s plenty of free gaming action available for your Android tablet.
