New users of the Nook App on Windows 8.1 PCs and tablets, Android tablets and phones as well as iPads, iPhones and iPod Touch devices, can get special free previews of books and magazines through the end of April.
New customers will receive a digital copy of People, Time, Popular Mechanics and Food Network Magazine.
They will also get free sneak peeks of four upcoming books from a selection of best-selling authors and the chance to try out any newspaper or magazine for a 14-day free trial.
The free Nook e-reader app offers content from Barnes & Noble Booksellers. Users can shop for books, magazines, newspaper and comics and also import ePub and PDF files from their PC or cloud storage.
Like their main competitor Amazon’s Kindle, the Nook service offers a wide selections of books, many of them free. The Nook has struggled to keep up with the popularity of the Kindle and took the step of installing the Google Play Store on their Nook tablets to permit users to download any Android app. Amazon Kindle users are still limited to the selection in the Amazon App store.
Kindle and Nook apps can be downloaded for Android tablets, iPads and Windows tablets. You can download the Kindle app for use with a Nook tablet, but the Nook app is not available in the Amazon App Store.
