A reader is ready to upgrade his XP PC. He writes: “I have Windows XP on my PC. I want to upgrade to Windows 7. Should I buy it or is there a free version of it? How to go about it to get the free version?”
There’s no free version of Windows 7 available. Those already using Windows 7 and 8.1 can upgrade to Windows 10 for free. If you want Windows 7, you’ll have to pay.
Windows 7 is getting harder and harder to find these days. Some companies like Dell do still have a very small selection of Windows 7 PCs in stock, though your best deal may be on a refurbished Windows 7 PC.
Keep in mind that Windows 7 only has 4 more years of support from Microsoft, where if you go with a Windows 10 PC, you’ve got support until 2025.
