We’ve covered how to download YouTube videos to your computer here before at WorldStart a few times. It seems as the years roll on by, it gets faster and easier to save the clips from everyone’s favorite video website. This new app I have to show you, however, blows all the competition outta the water! It’s called Free YouTube Download and it is chockfull of useful and timesaving features. Let’s investigate!
If you want to download Free YouTube Download, you can find that link right here. Just select Download Now, and follow the on-screen installation instructions. During the setup, you’ll be asked if you’d like to install the manufacturer’s toolbar. Be sure to uncheck those boxes if you’re not interested.
The interface will open up once setup has completed. First, let’s go over the procedure and along the way, I’ll point out some valuable aspects of this program.
To start downloading a YouTube video, just copy a URL from your web browser.
Right click in the Input URLs area, and select Paste. The video title and duration will appear.
Next designate your Output folder, which is simple enough.
Now comes the first wow-factor. When you select the Formats dropdown box, check it out! If you’ve ever complained about poor YouTube quality on your laptop or mobile device, you won’t anymore. You have options for MP4, AVI and FLV file types. I personally am a fan of MP4 because it works on both my computer and my Apple iPod – plus I can get 4096p HD from Free YouTube Download! Amazing!
Press Download and your file will be on its way. The title and progress bar will give you a percent completion so you have an idea exactly how far along you are.
That was easy as pie, right? If you select the Options… button, then Auto-paste URLs from Clipboard, your downloading becomes that much easier. If you are surfing YouTube, you can just highlight and video URL and copy it, and it gets added to your downloading queue right away.
If you paste a video from a playlist, Free YouTube Download will ask you if you’d like to download the entire playlist. This feature saved me from going to copy the links of 12 individual lectures on Einstein’s Theory. Pretty neat, isn’t it?
There are a handful of other user friendly features, so check them out in the Option dialog box.
It’s not often you find a gem like Free YouTube Download, so enjoy!

If you have RealPlayer on your computer, it will offer to download anything that is playing on YouTube when you pass the mouse pointer over the play window. While a video is playing, if you wait until all the data has loaded and hit download, it downloads instantly, otherwise it may take a long time.
