Get Rid Of Annoying Mac Notifications

While the Notifications Center that comes in built with your Mac is a handy utility for those of us who like to stay constantly up-to-date on things like social media, it can be an annoyance for others. Especially those with busy schedules who do not want to keep getting constant email, social media, and other notifications.

While there is no direct option in Mac OSX to disable the Notification Center, you can however, use a little trick to get this accomplished. To get started, we will open the System Preferences Window (click on the Apple icon in the top left corner or search for System Prefrences via Spotlight) and go to the Notifications option.

The very first option in this window is the Do Not Disturb option, which allows you to disable notifications for a set period of time.

To disable the Notification Center permanently, you need to set the Turn On Do Not Disturb time to a minute apart. For example, in the screenshot above you can see that I have set Do Not Disturb to be turned on from 10 AM PM to 9:59 AM the next day. Which means that it will only be enabled for a single minute. Given that I start my workday at 10 AM, the Notification Center is pretty much permanently disabled for me in a way. You can use the same workaround if you want to completely disable it.

In a similar way, you can disable the Notification Center during your workings hours so that you do not get distracted. Simply enter the desired time range in the same window mentioned above.

What if you want to disable Notifications Center temporarily and not necessarily for a set period of time? Can that be done? Of course. Simply press Alt and left click on the Notification Center icon on the top right corner and it will be instantly disabled. It will only be enabled again if you again alt click on it, or the next time you restart your Mac.
