Google Demands Microsoft Pull YouTube App From Windows Store

Those complaining about the lack of apps available for Windows 8 devices, aren’t going to like this bit of news. Google has demanded that Microsoft pull their recently released YouTube app from the Windows Phone Store and disable any of the apps already installed on devices.

Google says it did not approve the app and doesn’t appreciate the fact that the app blocks the ads that run accompanying the videos.  The Windows Phone app also allows users to download content, which is restricted on some devices.  Google says Microsoft has until May 22nd to pull the app.

Microsoft fired back that it Google has refused tor work with them on developing a quality app and that the reason their app doesn’t show ads is that Google won’t give them the necessary information to make it happen.  The company also said, they looked forward to solving the matter together for the benefit of their customers.

“YouTube is consistently one of the top apps downloaded by smartphone users on all platforms, but Google has refused to work with us to develop an app on par with other platforms. Since we updated the YouTube app to ensure our mutual customers a similar YouTube experience, ratings and feedback have been overwhelmingly positive. We’d be more than happy to include advertising but need Google to provide us access to the necessary APIs.”

Relations between the two tech giants have sometimes been tense, with Microsoft launching their “scroogled” campaign to convince users that the Bing search engine and Windows Phone platform are better choices due to privacy concerns.
