Keeping your New Year’s resolutions can be a challenge. That’s why we’re doing a special 3-part series on apps that can help you stick to your goals in the new year. Yesterday we looked at Human, an app designed to help you achieve your fitness goals. Today, we look at Streaks, an app that helps you develop and stick to better habits.
Winner of the Apple Design award 2016, Streaks is an app that helps you acquire new productive habits and ingrain them in your daily routine. These habits could be something as simple as flossing your teeth daily to something as profound as remembering to meditate everyday.
Experts have long said that doing something daily for at least 21 days helps you form a strong habit. Do it for 100 or more days and you have yourself a habit that will last a very long time. As the name suggests, Streaks help you strengthen a good habit by helping you form a long streak of days on which you have completed your chosen task.
For example, if you want to run for 20 minutes everyday, then you can track your streak of running days in the app and as the chain gets longer and longer, you will be less and less inclined to stop running daily since you wouldn’t want to break this chain, especially when the app is encouraging you with positive messages to not do so. Before you know it, you have a new habit in place already.
Streaks is a wonderful app that capitalizes on this facet of the human brain and helps you build good habits for life. It’s available for Android and iOS. Just head to your device’s app store to download.
