Hello Ubuntu – Nice To Meet You

So, you’ve decided to give Ubuntu a try. I can’t say anything but “congrats!” Due to the fact that this is your first time using this free operating system, I’m here to give you some hints about how to use it and what it can do.

When you turn on your computer and choose to run Ubuntu, you’ll have your first meeting with gorgeous OS. Keep in mind the little circle at the top left. It is the Ubuntu symbol and I’ll now you more about it later.

Now you will insert the password you chose during setup and the operating system should load in a few seconds. The first thing that should catch your eyes is the wallpaper. It is really eye-candy. The warm, stunning colors will make you fall in love with Ubuntu at first sight. (Can you tell that I did?)

Next, I’m sure you will notice the taskbar. It’s unusual, isn’t it?

Starting with Ubuntu 12.04, the developers brought in a new concept called Unity 3D. Not everyone is happy with the new look. Some find it tricky. In earlier versions, the task bar was similar to the traditional Windows interface.

If you don’t like the Unity taskbar and would prefer the more traditional look, you can easily do that by choosing Gnome before you log in. Remember that little circle from the login menu I told you about earlier? Click it after you insert your password and you will see the following menu:

Choose Gnome Classis and log it! It’s that simple.

In part 2 of this tip, we’ll continue your introduction to Ubuntu.

Cynthia or Adrian, could you please help me with correct address for downloading Ubuntu as I must be doing something wrong.
    Thank you,
    Bob

I would suggest to download a LTS release (Long Term Support). The last one is 12.04. The link that Cynthia provided is good, but if you don’t know if to choose 32 or 64 bit, than choose 32. It will work just fine, even if you have a 64 bit architecture.
