Alan has a problem
For some reason my Excel 97 will no longer make charts properly. I follow the procedure I have used for years. They do make, but are not at all what they should be. I can update (add new data, etc.)existing charts fine, but creating new ones–bad news.
Alan, it may be time for an Excel upgrade. Security support for Office 97 ended in 2004. You don’t say which operating system you’re using. If it’s XP and you still use it to go online, it’s possible you’ve got some type of malware. Even in Windows 7, there’s no protection for Office 97.
If you’re using Windows 7, it’s possible the latest round of updates affected Office 97. Since it’s no longer supported, the effects of updates on Excel 97 aren’t taken into consideration. Check your recent updates and see if any coincide with your Excel problems. If that’s the case, you could remove anything that isn’t critical. You could try restoring your computer back to an earlier date.
Sometimes programs just become corrupt. You may want to consider removing and re-installing Excel if you still have the discs and the product key to activate it.
An excellent, free alternative to Excel is LibreOffice Calc. Learn about that program by clicking here.
