Holiday Tech Guide Part 4: Tablets

Saturday, November 30th, 2013 by | Filed Under: Android, iOS, Windows 8

Computer tablets are plentiful this year. This holiday season you can make informed choices about these tech wonders and find the right tablet at the right price.

Android or iPad tablets help you Web surf, social media, games, e-mail and read eBooks. If you purchase a compatible keyboard and download an office app, you can also use them for a lot of the same functions as your PC.

The Kindle Fire HDX 7-inch tablet works well for entertainment while The Nexus 7 (Google) offers a nice overall value. Both tablets are priced around $230.

The Asus Memo Pad HD 7 also offers basic functionality for around $150.

The Surface Pro gives users a quality computer comparable to a Windows laptop for starting at $699  with the less expensive Surface RT as another tablet computer option

Tablets are getting more affordable and very light. The iPad air has a 9.7-inch display and weighs only a little over a battery yet has 10 hours battery time ($499). The LG G Pad 8.3 is comparable to the iPad Mini at $350 and features an 8-inch screen.

Sony’s Xperia Tablet Z clocks in around $450 and is water proof while the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 offers several functions on an 8-inch screen for around $400. The Galaxy Tab 3 (8-inch) is also affordable at $300.

A great value option is to go with an unbranded Android tablet like the 7” Dual-Core HD Android tablet.  or a similar model. At just over $100, they provide great basic tablet functionality that’s perfect for the beginner or as a gift for kids. Unbranded Android tablets are now the fastest selling tablets in the world as more customers are willing to trade brand-name recognition for considerable savings in price.
