Max from Alberta asks:
Is there a way to schedule my social networking (Twitter, Facebook, etc.) updates?
Alright, so you’re a Twitter addict and there’s no way you can get rid of your addiction. No problem – you can still reduce the effect it has on you if you schedule your tweets, Facebook and Foursquare updates so each update doesn’t drown the other out. Spacing them out is important to ensure optimum readership.
Download Hootsuite (http://hootsuite.com) on your desktop/laptop/netbook, or have it downloaded on your Apple device or Android phone. It’s free for all.
…and that’s not all.
You can even Twitter messages from over 50 languages, see the conversation history for context, set up real-time Twitter searches…
…and even examine message click statistics by date, and shorten URLs.
What’s more, you can save links to read later using the Instapaper app within Hootsuite. You can even compose Twitter messages in landscape mode for convenience and open pages in Safari for readability.
It’s important that you don’t update your Twitter and Facebook message boards more than five times a day. It’s akin to spamming for many, unless you are reporting on a live event for a defined audience. Therefore, make use of this scheduling feature of Hootsuite and make the most of your updates. Just remember that updates which are insightful or utilitarian are more preferred than those that are plain bombastic.
