How Artificial Intelligence Will Change Your Job

Technology is a disruptive force in the business world, but that shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. What’s truly surprising is the rate at which that change happens. Technology is always advancing, and as advances become more regular, businesses have needed to adapt at an increased pace. One of the most promising technologies to come along in recent years is artificial intelligence. What once started as a concept seen only in science-fiction is starting to become a reality. The impact this technology is having in business has only just begun, but the true scope of this change will be monumental. In all the speculation over what AI will do, it’s clear that businesses will need to change as AI becomes commonplace. Some of those changes will lead to huge benefits for businesses, while others are generating some concerns.

Perhaps one of the biggest changes and the one drawing the most headlines is the use of automation. As artificial intelligence is adopted, it’s allowing for more automation with repeated tasks. For now, the tasks being automated are relatively simple, but as developers and programmers become more familiar with the capabilities of AI, more complex tasks could be automated as well. While this can make the business more productive, it has led to some concerns over the loss of jobs. Some contend that AI will actually increase jobs for workers with the right skills, but that remains to be seen. All we know is that automation is happening for businesses on a much grander scale than ever before.

As IT infrastructure becomes more complex, AI isn’t just an option for businesses to choose, it’s practically a requirement. How infrastructure is handled and managed is going to change. DevOps, a new aspect of businesses by itself, will quickly evolve into a more analytics-centered approach. This new analytics mindset is a major change compared to what businesses have been using for decades. Part of the appeal of using AI in this way is its ability to predict what’s going to happen next. This data then can be applied to what is known as software-defined architectures. That may seem complicated, but what it actually means is that information about how people in the company use the network system and can be applied to easily redesign the system as it’s being used.

No more being stuck with a rigid system that doesn’t suit your needs. You can teach your infrastructure how to work for you.   While this may be seen as a way for businesses to be more productive, it’s also a way for companies to deliver their services to consumers much more quickly. In a competitive business world where you want to quickly seize any opportunity, AI becomes an indispensable tool that businesses can’t afford to ignore if they wish to remain competitive.

Artificial intelligence will also prove its worth in helping improve cyber security. At the same time that infrastructure has gotten more complex,  cyber attackers have become more advanced. Businesses struggle to keep up with these tactics as evidenced by the growing list of companies hit by major security breaches. Artificial intelligence may be they key to finally fighting back against these attacks by improving commercial security systems. With the use of AI, they will be able to find the weak points in their defenses, helping shore them up before hackers can launch an attack. AI can also play a role in detecting attacks in the early stages. This is why many startups have been launched in recent years to take advantage of this technology. If successful, businesses will finally be protected from hackers.

All of these developments are adding up to what many believe will one day become the fully cognitive business. That’s where the technology can actually make decisions and interact with humans on its own. That’s still a ways off, of course, but it’s a tantalizing look at what the future may hold as enterprises use artificial intelligence to overhaul their existing business models. An emphasis on automation, improved security, and advanced DevOps will be the result, ushering in a new age of business productivity and accomplishment. Almost everything we know will change in some way, so it’s easy to get excited over the possibilities.

What do you think about the introduction of artificial intelligence to the workplace? Great opportunities or too many potential downsides? Let us know in the comments.

  1. MV Rao says:

Every country (whether developed or developing) has huge percentage of unskilled workers. Unfortunately every country is hugging automation, AI. How are the unskilled people supposed to earn their living? This will result in huge job losses and could lead to social unrest.
