External drives can hold a lot of important information. A reader is having difficulty connecting an older drive to newer system. “I have an Iomega 1TB external hard drive which only works up to Windows XP. When I plug it into my Windows 8.1 computer, it doesn’t even recognize it. What can I get that will let it work and also with Windows 10 when I upgrade?”
What you would need are Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 drivers. Those drivers would come from the manufacturer. There’s no guarantee that the manufacturer offers updated drives for Windows 8.1 and 10. Click here for a support link I found for Iomega products.
If you don’t see the necessary drivers for your drive, you could contact the company and ask if they are working on them. Otherwise, you’ll need to transfer your files to another storage device.
