How do I disable/re-enable the internet connection for Win 7 Pro and Win 8. There are times that I need every ounce of memory available and don’t need to be connected to the internet or be distracted by auto-updating programs by flashing icons or reminders that there is a new latest and greatest version of a utility program that I really should consider buying or upgrading to.
If you have a laptop, it’s possible it’s only a touch of a button away. You may have a key like this one that lets you instantly turn the Internet connection on or off.
If you’re anything like me, it allows you to ACCIDENTALLY turn your Internet connection off several times a month. You may also be able to do this quickly on a laptop by pressing the Fn Key + F2.
In Windows 7, you can also shut off the connection by searching Network Connection in the search box and then clicking on Network Connections in the search results.
You can then right-click on your connection to disable it. You can also create a shortcut to the connection to place on the desktop.
In Windows 8, open the Charms Bar and choose Settings.
You can turn the WiFi on or off with the slider bar.
I’m a little concerned that just having the Internet turned on is taxing the memory of your PC. Those processes should be able to happen in the background without causing your computer to stop running.
But, I hope this helps.
