You failed to mention another type. This other type is often used in industrial application and is actually NOT a touch screen at all. Basically there is a small gap between the bezel and the screen glass (optical type) or the bezel is transparent to the frequency used. When something touches the screen, it also interrupts the beams crossing the face of the screen. The only disadvantage that I know of is the cost and system complexity needed to ensure the system does not respond to leaves or other objects blowing against the screen. Good article.
