Trevor has an update problem. “How important is the Update to Windows 10, version 1607. Can its download be stopped, canceled, etc? We are serviced with pathetically slow internet speeds here. At its first attempt, it took this update 36 hours to download, and then it failed to install. It is now 24 hours into a second download, it is sitting at 85% complete. I suspect that when it finishes downloading, assuming it ever gets there, the chances are that it will not install once again. It is possible to stop and prevent this download and continue to run with the current version?”
Pretty important, Trevor. It’s the Windows Anniversary update. Before I can help you troubleshoot, we need to find out why the update is failing to install. Once you know the error code, it may be a simple fix.
Here’s how to check. First, click on Settings.
Then choose Update & security and click on Windows Update.
Then click View your update history.
Find the failed update and check for any error numbers or information. One common problem is third-party security software blocking installation. You might consider temporarily disabling it.
You can also try downloading the update directly from Microsoft by clicking here.
This should stop updates until you figure out the issue. I also suggest typing Contact Support in your search box and clicking on the result. Microsoft may be able to talk you through this one.
