How The Snapdragon 820 Will Change Phones & Tablets

Thursday, December 24th, 2015 by | Filed Under: Android, Hardware & Peripherals, Smartphones

Mobile technology innovation will continue to progress in a big way this upcoming 2016 year as Qualcomm debuts its latest and greatest—the Snapdragon 820 processor. With smartphones, tablets and phablets growing exponentially in the market, so too is the popularity in mobile gaming. The projected Spring 2016 entrance of Snapdragon’s latest 820 processor will take the tech world by storm, presenting the future of not only the mobile device market but more specifically the future of mobile gaming.

 The Speed

An extremely strong processing unit is required to support complex commands built into the nature of mobile games—the Snapdragon 820 will keep up with these demands and surpass competitors with its speed. Offering three-times-faster upload/download speeds (essentially instant, lightening fast), mobile gaming connectivity and motion graphics will run smooth and uninterrupted. To add, the chip utilizes LTE-U that taps into both licensed and unlicensed connections resulting in boosted connections speeds in congested areas. Thus, playing a game on a crowded subway should be no different than playing in a private home setting.

 The Visuals & Sounds

A mulititude of visual capabilities will become avail to owners of 820-equipped devices. First off, this chip is bringing with it next-generation processing technologies—it is powered by the new Adreno 530 GPU and Kryo CPU which helps to generate photorealistic graphics for console-quality gaming in a mobile setting. Furthermore, it supports 4K displays, boasting more realistic colors, lighting and shadows. This will, as a result, give mobile devices virtual reality capabilities and produce stunning 3D environments. To amplify the VR visual component, the chip processes 3D audio, sound effects that surround from behind, above and below the listener, to give users a truly immersive virtual reality experience, all in the palms of their hands. And to take it even further, Snapdragon 820-powered smartphones that attach to VR headsets detect intuitive interactions which helps sensor head movement in order to create realistic, true-to-life movements in the virtual reality world.

 The Endurance

For the long-distance gamer, this chip has optimized efficiency so game play can go on and on. The Snapdragon 820 consumes 60% less power than Qualcomm’s previous 801 chipset and charges devices four times faster. Additionally, with many mobile gamers already sporting the latest technology, Snapdragon’s 820 also allows for wireless charging, something much desired for the mobile-prone customer.

 The Experience

The overall gaming experience with a mobile device that will house the Snapdragon 820 processor will greatly improve. Unpleasant side effects like overheated smartphones in hands will not be an issue due to optimized efficiency the processor allows for. Malware and viruses from constant connection and usage will be avoided with the chip’s automatic threat detection application called Smart Protect, which scans through all applications within the device to prevent unwanted hacking and system failure. Qualcomm has also developed artificial intelligence abilities for the Snapdragon 820. This technology will give the tech producer the ability to track user behavior and tweak features on mobile devices that house the chip to improve the user experience—forging the way for highly intuitive gameplay.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processing chip won’t just make improvements in mobile gaming, it will take the activity to the next level. With superior VR capabilities, power and speed four times stronger and faster, and maximized efficiencies intact, this will pioneer the future of mobile gaming for a truly immersive, visual symphony of fun.
