How To Pick Up Browsing Where You Left Off

Thursday, December 1st, 2016 by | Filed Under: Android, iOS, Quick Tips, Using The Internet

If you use Chrome for web browsing, and it is the most popular browser these days, there is a useful feature that enables you to start browsing on one device and continue on another. You can pick up browsing where you left off.

When you are away from the computer and just have your phone for example, you might browse the web and find an interesting site that you would like to look at later on your computer. When you get back home or to work you can carry on browsing by opening that web page.

Pages you opened on your iPad while sitting on the sofa watching the TV can be opened later on your computer. If you are browsing on your computer and have to go out, you can continue browsing the same website and page on your phone whenever you have a few minutes to spare.

Google Chrome makes all this possible by syncing and storing your web browsing history in your account online. All you need to do is to sign in to Google in Chrome on each computer, phone or tablet. Once signed in, you will stay signed in.

Go to and click the Sign in button in the top right corner of the page.

Press Ctrl+H to open the browser history or go to the menu and select History.

At the top of the page is a list of computers, tablets and phones that you use to browse the web. Usually the names are obvious, like iPad, but sometimes you get something like SM-G920F. That is the model number of a Samsung Galaxy S6 phone.

Under each device is a list of open tabs. Click a page to open it in Chrome.

Next to each device is a small button and clicking it displays a menu. There are options to hide the items, but the most useful is Open all. Click it to open all the tabs.

There are two tabs open in Chrome on this phone and they open in Chrome on the PC.

It works the other way around too, so if you have tabs open on your desktop computer you can go to the menu in Chrome on your phone or iPad and select History. The tabs open on the PC are listed and they can be tapped to open them

Below the device list is the whole history of web pages you have viewed recently on all devices. You can revisit any of them by clicking or tapping.
