Juan has a question about a friend’s PC: A friend has been given a Surface 3. I am usually asked to help her with any new computer she gets. Surface 3 is and remains a total mystery t me. First I tried to remove the old owner’s information and apps. They were avid Facebook users and had several other apps that my friend has no interest in. The gifter was called about helping to remove the unwanted apps. They said to just select the app and tap delete and it would be removed. I never saw a delete option or any choice to remove the app. When I tried to set it up under the new user’s information, it seemed that it had taken the new info. When I tried to load Win 10 on to it, it just kept taking me in circles but never actually tried to download the OS . I finally tried restarting the unit. It went right back to the original owner and their password to sign on. 1.) How do I change the owner and password information to my friend’s info. 2.) how
Your quickest option is just to reset the device back to factory settings. This will remove all the information from the previous owner and erase their apps. Just type “reset this PC” in the search charm, click on the results and follow the instructions. Make sure to choose Remove everything.
Your friend can then log in with their own Microsoft Account and start fresh. Then run any updates that the PC needs. After that, you can try Windows 10 again. If your friend has anything they wish to keep on the PC, make sure they save it to a flash drive or the cloud before resetting.
