How to Reset Firefox

Monday, June 16th, 2014 by | Filed Under: Quick Tips, Using The Internet

Jim from SE London, UK writes:

Is it possible to reset Firefox or should I just do a delete & Install? After saving my Bookmarks, of course.

A reset can sometimes solve problems with the Firefox brownser. Resetting Firefox is easy. Go to the menu button in the upper right of your screen and choose the ? symbol.

Then select Troubleshooting information from the drop-down menu.

Now choose, Reset Firefox

Your Bookmarks, browsing history, passwords, tabs, autofill information and personal dictionary will be saved. Extensions, search engines, download history, security settings, plugin settings, toolbars customizations and social features will be removed.¬† Your old data will¬† go into a folder called “Old Firefox Data” on your desktop. If the reset doesn’t solve your issues, you’ll be able to copy some of this information back into your new profile.

Thanks so much Cynthia for this timley and helpful information on dealing with Firefox which is now my browser of choice since I am using Ubuntu as my system provider having decided to shut down my old MS XP….alas, alas!

I personally recommend Google Chrome over Firefox. Firefox is a nice internet browser, but I’m removing a lot more computer viruses from infected Firefox browsers than I am Google Chrome. Firefox is open source, which is usually good since anyone can contribute to it’s programming, but you get that small percentage of criminals which cause problems because of that opportunity.
