The clock in the windows taskbar can be changed to display the date in quite a few different ways. To add the current day of the week left click on the time in the bottom right-hand corner>left click “change date and time settings…”>left click “change date and time…”>left click “change calendar settings” then in the Short Date box change the text to: dddd M/d/yyyy then click ok. You can now close all of the other windows that were open.
Note: You can also switch the dddd which will give you the long day name (IE: Monday) to ddd which will give you the short day name (IE: Mon)

Nice tip; and no question seeing more day/date information can be convenient. But as is not infrequently the case within the Windows operating system, a “small tweak” such as this may have consequences, which you did not touch on. In this case, if you are a Quicken user – and it may be that this would affect Excel date formatting as well – if you make this change and then open your admittedly precious financial files (lots of labor!), you will find yourself looking at what I am guessing is binary code for the proper dates – as opposed to the familiar dates themselves. In short, make the short format a long format…and you will mess up dating within Quicken (in this case am using 2012). Try it for yourself. Once I restored the default setting, I was once again able to make sense of my Quicken file, and it no longer begged for a “Valid Date Format”. For anyone who might not immediately associate the two, this could potentially be a very unpleasant shock. Clearly, there are multiple instances of Windows OS appas which are dependent on the Date and Time Settings, such that tweaking them is not something to be taken casually. Hope this helps.
My windows 7 does not appear to have the options described. However, given what Lee said, I am glad I couldn’t change it. I do not want to mess up Quicken.

Worked for me. Just type in four ds before the date with one space and click on apply. If you have a program such as Quicken you are probably best not to do this.

Windows 7 Home Premium — instructions do not work. Hint — a lot of stuff doesn’t seem to work in Home Premium. Should have bought Offcie Prof.
