By using the Audio Chat and Video Chat features found in most Instant Messaging programs you can keep in touch with friends over the internet.

All you need is a microphone and/or a web cam on each end to enjoy real-time conversations without the long-distance phone rates (not to mention that video chat makes you feel like George Jetson).
