Imperial History of the Middle East [1]

This flash site offers an amazing look at who has conquered the Middle East over the last 5,000 years. To start it, just click play!

You’ll watch it be conquered from 3000 B.C.E to 2006 C.E. The application provides three options – a play button, a pause button, and a hide borders button. The hide borders button will remove the nation borders from the map. You can also click anywhere on the timeline to jump to that point.

If you don’t want to click directly into the .SWF file, go here [2] and you can watch it in a smaller format.

I found it fascinating to watch how many times the area had changed hands during different conquests. At the very end, it will show the different empires overlapped in a sum of events.

Pretty cool, right?
