Samsung Says Suppliers To Blame For Exploding Phones

Samsung’s investigation into what caused Galaxy Note7 phones to explode has determined that the fault for the explosions and fires that led to a massive recall lies with improperly-sized batteries.

The company says manufacturers produced batteries that didn’t fit properly in the phone and that resulted in overheating and fires.

Microsoft Stopping Updates On Original Windows 10 Release

Now that Microsoft has released its anniversary update, the company will stop updating the original release of Windows 10 For Business that came out in July 2015.

After March of this year, the company will offer updates for systems running the November 2015 update of Windows 10 for Business and the Anniversary update for Windows 10 for Business from this August. The original version will still work, but won’t receive any security or bug fixes.

Note that this refers to business licenses and not Home Editon. So, it’s time for business users to make the updates to the latest version of Windows 10.¬† Automatic Windows 10 updates should have already done the job of keeping home users up-to-date.

Apple Files $1 Billion Extortion Lawsuit

Apple is suing chipmaker Qualcomm, claiming that the company has unfairly demanded royalties for technology they had no part in developing. The Federal Trade Commission also filed a complaint against Qualcomm.

Qualcomm is a major supplier of the chips that allow phones to connect to cell networks and the company gets a license fee for basically every smartphone that’s sold around the world. The FTC alleges that the company uses its position as the main chip supplier to unfairly charge companies like Apple.

In a statement, Apple said, “The more Apple innovates with unique features such as TouchID, advanced displays, and cameras, to name just a few, the more money Qualcomm collects for no reason and the more expensive it becomes for Apple to fund these innovations.”
