 Google Drive

Let’s Go For A (Google) Drive

Hey everyone, look!  Google came out with something new!  What, not surprised?  Yeah, I didn’t think so…

Cynicism aside, Google announced on Tuesday it would be joining the expanding world of cloud computing with “Google Drive.”  The new service will provide its users with 5GB of free cloud storage with the option of purchasing more at a monthly fee.  This will also expand on the already existing Google Cloud, which lets users store documents and email.  The purpose, like most cloud drives, is to allow users to store, share, and easily transfer larger files.

According to Google, users can pay $2.50 a month of a 25GB storage upgrade.  The service will also be accessible through both PC’s and Macs as well as an Android app.  An app for iOS devices is promised for the near future.  Google is also getting a bit of criticism for joining the cloud drive game so late.  Apple has had iCloud available since last June while Microsoft, Dropbox, and Amazon have had a strong presence as well.

 Facebook Security

Facebook Is Concerned About Your Security (I Guess?)

Facebook, who recently released that it’s reached 900 million users this past week, is now making it known how serious they are in keeping its users safe online.  They announced on Wednesday that they are teaming up with McAfee, Microsoft, Symantec, and others to help combat the threat of spam, viruses, and malicious URLs.  Facebook has created a URL blacklist system that scans trillions of clicks per day.  The new partnership allows the social network to combine their database of malicious URLs with the databases of the security companies.

Facebook has also introduced AV Marketplace.  This allows users to download a 6-month license for full antivirus protection from one of the new partners.  The best part?  It’s free of charge.  You can also “Like” Facebook’s security page to get regular security updates.

This is truly nice, I have been trying to join Facebook, but both times I have raked a few bugs so I got discouraged. I will try once again when they do have better security.

    Thanks for letting us know.
