Dish Loses Subscribers To Cord Cutters

More and more TV viewers are cutting that cable and satellite cord. Dish Network lost 143,000 subscribers in the first 3 months of 2017.  That’s nearly double the number they expected to lose.

Dish does have its own streaming option, SlingTV. Have you cut the cord? Is it working out for you? Let us know what you think in the comments.

Time Is Short For Many Apple Apps

Close to 200,000 iPhone apps are living on borrowed time. When iOS 11 is released, these apps are going to stop working. According to Apple, the apps in question may slow down phones, so they won’t work with new versions of iOS.  If anyour app hasn’t received updates in the past couple years, it’s likely toast with the new update.

If your iOS is up-to-date, you can check which apps are affected by going to Setting>General>About> Applications.

  1. Ed Harris says:

Cynthia, you have published numerous articles regarding “cutting the cord”, but almost all make reference to getting an antenna for over-the-air network connectivity. There are many streaming options, however when you live outside the normal range for an antenna to function, does that leave prospective cord-cutters out of the loop? Would love an article that defines options available for we rural folks. Thanks for all you do.

  2. Michael P Russell says:

Dear Cynthia, thank for the tip on charging up an iPhone Quicker, I never would have thought of that.

The question that arises is will this tip work on all the other Smartphones that are out there in the market that have an Airplane Mode?

  3. EZgoing says:

We are also rather ‘rural’.. no over the air TV, no cell service (or ‘maybe’ one bar if we are lucky)… Cable or satellite are our best options it seems… Our DSL rates poor to fair (in the middle of the night) in any of the speed tests you have offered to us in the past.. Top it off, there are 3 of us trying to do their own thing on their tablets or laptops… Unless you can offer another option, we seem to be stuck hanging from that cord…

  4. Stephanie Staker says:

I am a little confused about the iPhone app thing you reported. You said “If your iOS is up-to-date, you can check which apps are affected by going to Setting>General>About> Applications”. Okay, I did that and all I see is that I have 48 applications. So? How does that tell me what apps will be affected? Please help!
