Is Your HP Laptop Spying On You?

Security researchers modzero have made a troubling discovery about some HP laptops. They found a keylogger hiding in an audio driver package that comes pre-installed on some HP laptops. A keylogger is a program that records all of the keystrokes made on a device’s keyboard.

The software comes from audio chip manufacturer Conexant. The folks at modzero advised users to check for this program:

C:\Windows\System32\MicTray64.exe or C:\Windows\System32\MicTray.exe

You can learn more about the issue at modzero’s website by clicking here.

HP issued patches for the problem through Windows update. The company says the installation of the keylogger was accidental and that no customer information was taken.

Windows Is Getting A New Look

Microsoft apps will have a new look. The company is rolling out a new look it calls the Fluid Design System. This new look is meant to add depth to your desktop and controls. It also focuses on smoother motions and transitions between actions which the company says it wants to have “cinematic ease,” just like a well-edited movie.

Microsoft wants to move away from an appearance based on static rectangles and add more motion. From the screenshot above, what do you think of Fluent Design? Let us know in the comments.

Windows 7 Still The Top OS

With three years of support left, Windows 7 is still the most popular operating system out there, found on 48% of PCs. Windows 10 is a distant second at 26%, followed by Windows XP at 7%. Windows XP hasn’t been supported for 3 years, so that mean a full 7% of PCs out there are basically unprotected. Windows 8.1’s share continues to fall. It’s down to just under 7%. Mac OSX 10.2 is found on just 3% of computers while Linux has worked its way up to a full 2%. Windows Vista has fallen to less than 1% of computers in use.

can’t really tell much about the new windows 10 from the screen shot, but it looks a lot like windows 8. Sure would hate to go back to that.
