Google Introduces Chrome Apps That Work Offline

When Google launched the  Chromebook, they were counting on the idea that a browser-based OS would more than meet customer’s needs. We fielded a lot of questions from people who just weren’t sure how Chromebooks worked. Now the company is adding Chrome Apps – applications that run in Chrome, but look a little more like what you’re used to seeing on your PC.

Chrome Apps don’t display the web address and some of them even work offline.  While that seems to defeat the purpose of an entirely cloud-based OS, the company says it’s just trying to include as much functionality as possible.

Amazon Shows Off New Paperwhite

Amazon’s Kindle Paperwhite is new and improved, featuring a higher contrast display that makes blacks look blacker and whites appear whiter.  It also features a faster processor, more sensitive touch technology and enhanced dictionary and Wikipedia functions as well as a Vocabulary builder that stores all the words you’ve looked up while reading.

The device will also feature integration with the Goodreads social media site and extend the FreeTime function from the Kindle Fire to the Paperwhite in order to provide a distraction free reading experience with kids and allow parents to track their progress.

The Paperwhite is $119 for the ad-supported version and $139 without ads. It starts shipping September 30th
