AVG Draws Fire For Privacy Policy

Some users of AVG AntiVirus are not happy about the company’s newly stated privacy policy. It’s not that there’s anything new about what they’re doing, but they are spelling it all out in plain language.  The company admits it tracks users’ IP address, name, account names, phone number, SIM card number, device ID numbers and geographic location.

They also say that they store the data in a way that doesn’t identify you personally.  They also state that is you use their free antivirus, they’ll use your data to make money by collecting an advertising ID for your device, retaining your browsing and search history as well as information on other apps you have on your device and how you use them.

AVG is actually proud of their new plain language policy, and they’ve issued a challenge to other companies to do the same.

Park Closes Due To Bear Selfies

A Colorado park was forced to close because people are apparently idiots.  So many people were attempting to get  “selfies” of themselves with the park’s bear population, that Waterton Canyon was closed to keep protect both the wildlife and the geniuses that thing bear selfies seem like a good idea.

Apparently folks were coming in with selfie sticks to attempt to get a close as possible to bears and snap a shot on their mobile phone. The park will reopen when bear activity slows down for the winter.

Microsoft Updates Windows RT 8.1

Microsoft has delivered an optional update to users of Windows RT 8.1 tablets. Once applied, the update gives the user the Windows 10 Start Menu along with the ability to pin apps and access most frequently used applications.

It does not, however, upgrade the device to Windows 10.
