How can I keep people from finding me on Facebook? I only want to talk with my family and people I know. And how do I stop people from putting stuff on my wall, reading my posts and putting my name on pictures on Facebook? T.M. in Ohio.
In part 1 of this article, I showed you some tips for being hard to find on Facebook. In part 2, we’ll work on keeping your Timeline private and giving you control over tagging. On the right side of the Privacy Settings and Tools Page, select “Timeline and Tagging.”
Under “Who can post on your timeline?” choose “Only Me” from the drop-down menu.
Now we are going to make sure you know if someone tags you in a post or photo. Select “Review posts friends tag you in before they appear on your timeline” and turn it on. Underneath that you’ll find the option to notify friends when you’re tagged in a post. You can switch that to “Only Me” or a custom setting to limit the audience.
Right beneath that option is one to determine if Facebook’s somewhat creepy facial-recognition program suggests to other people that you might be in their photograph. Switch that to “No One.” Even if you aren’t hyper-sensitive about privacy, I’d suggest this or you may find your name mentioned in some strange photos.
With these changes, T.M, you’ll still be able to see your friends, but they won’t see so much of you. Don’t get offended if someone calls you a lurker. Happy Facebooking.
