Apple is reversing the trend towards larger, more expensive phones with the iPhone SE. The 4″ model starts at $399, considerably less than the $649 starting price for the iPhone 6S.
The company says that customers have been asking for a new 4″ phone. This new model uses the same A9 chip with a motion processor as the iPhone 6S, but it retains the boxier shapes of earlier iPhones.
The phone features a 12MP iSight Camera capable of taking 4K videos.
The phone also has features like Live Photos, Touch ID fingerprint reader, and Apple Pay.
Apple executives hope the phone will be a hit in emerging markets like Latin America where lower-priced phones are in demand. It also might be a less-expensive choice for parents with teens who want an iPhone.
Some have expressed disappointment that the SE is really just a scaled down version of the iPhone 6S. But for budget-conscious iPhone fans looking for a nice phone instead of tablet substitute, this litle device could be just the ticket.
