I have a Nexus 7 (original version) and very much appreciate your Android How-To Articles. I hope you will keep them coming.
I have 39 Widgets on my tablet, including 3 weather widgets, 4 for Battery Doctor, 9 for Google stuff, 2 called Contact. Is it OK to get rid of some of them and how do I do it?
Nick it’s certainly fine to delete widgets that you aren’t using. Since you’ve been following our Android How-To series, you know widgets are simply apps that update with live information.
You will sometimes see multiple widgets in various sizes for the same app. That allows you to choose the size you like best. For example, Go Weather EX offers current weather widgets in 2×1, 4×1 and 4×2 plus forecast widgets in 4×1 and 4×2.
Sometimes widgets are a feature of an app that you’re going to want to keep using, you just don’t want to utilize all the widgets. If you just want the widget off the home screen and aren’t sure whether or not you wish to delete a widget, tap and hold that widget. You can then move the widget or drag it to the garbage can to remove it from the home screen. The widget is not deleted, but it is out of sight.
To look at all of your Widgets you’ll want to tap the little square of squares icon that indicates Apps.
Then choose Widgets.
All of your widgets should be displayed. You may have several pages of widgets. You can navigate the pages by swiping with your finger or by pressing the little square at the bottom of the screen. You’ll notice that some of your widgets come in various shapes and sizes. This allows you to customize the look of your home screen.
If you wish to delete a widget, press your menu button and choose Uninstall.
Then select the widget you wish to delete and you’ll be given the option to uninstall.
You can also delete apps by going into settings and choosing Application Manager. Press down on the app you wish to uninstall and you’ll get an menu that gives you that option.
