Is It Safe To Click The Windows Upgrade Pop-Up?

Wednesday, July 6th, 2016 by | Filed Under: Quick Tips, Windows 10

As the clock is ticking for your free Windows 10 download, many of you have questions about the best way to upgrade: “Is it safe to download Win 10 by clicking on those interminable popups for it? Or is it better to go directly to the Microsoft site for the download? I’m afraid of clicking on a spam or virus popup.”

If by pop-up, you mean the Windows upgrade notification on your taskbar, it is safe and probably the best way for you to upgrade.

Don’t click on anything that shows up while you have a browser open. Click the Windows icon and this window will open. Either start the upgrade immediately or schedule a later time.

The upgrade shouldn’t affect your files, but make sure you have everything important backed up just in case.

I learn so much from these ques but I would like to tell you an experience the other day I downloaded Win 10, all seems good, have Steve’s tutorial (learning) and I typed a Typo O in the browser and this window came up (full screen) and blared that I have a virus /malware and I need to call Microsoft immediately. I couldn’t close out the screen, it was flashing and repeated this message to call Microsoft with the number and alerting me my credit crds were being intercepted and bank info vulnerable. I shut off the computer, don’t trust anything BUT could this be true ? My Norton is good. Scary out there !!!
