Don has a question about the largest manufacturer of Android phones. He writes: I caught a glimpse of something about Samsung going out of the smart phone business. Is this true?
Don, this rumor came from an article where an industry analyst predicted that Samsung would eventually get out of the smartphone business because Apple would corner the high-end market and other manufacturers would take over the lower end.
That would leave mid-priced Galaxy phones with no niche. Samsung isn’t showing any signs now that it wants to exit the Smartphone market after introducing the Galaxy 6 phone and the Galaxy Note 5. There are rumors (and again, these are rumors) that the Galaxy 7 phone will actually cost about 10% less the Galazxy 6. Samsung is still the largest manufacturer of Smartphones in the world. They sold 21.4% of all handsets sold in the second quarter of 2015 while apple followed with 13.9%.
However, the Galaxy 6 did not sell as well as the company had hoped, possibly due to Samsung eliminating expandable storage and a removable battery, two key features that separates the Galaxy line from iPhone.
