Many new drives will no automatically appear on a computer system until they are initialized and formatted on the system.
To do this, you will need to access your disk management area.
Connect the drive to the cable and then go to your control panel. In the control panel, go to Administrative tools. In there, go to disk management. You should see a list of disks there.
Look for a disk on the bottom portion of the screen that has a number but no letter. Right click on the drive number then choose "initialize disk" This will walk you through the rest of the steps. You shouldn't have to do anything more than click next through the steps.
After you connect the necessary cords to your drive, the computer should automatically install the drivers.
Your drive should be listed under "my computer" with a drive letter.
If this does not happen, check the jumpers on your drive and make sure they are set up as the "master" setting. The jumper should be near where the other cables plug in and looks like a small square piece of plastic.
