We’ve been talking about New Year’s resolutions this week. First, we checked out Human, an app to help you meet your fitness goals. Then we looked at Streak, an app designed to help you start good habits. But what about breaking those bad habits?
For a lot of people, New Year’s resolutions are about breaking bad habits. Quitting smoking or drinking, not spending as much money on shopping or trying not to eat too much unhealthy food- there are plenty such habits that many of us want to be rid of.
Let’s face it, these habits are difficult to break and you need a plan in place as well a tracker that motivates when you’re on this difficult path. The iQuit app is designed just for such a purpose. Like Streaks, it helps you build a streak of days when you have not indulged in a bad habit but it does a lot more than that as well.
Let’s say you want to quit smoking. You start by setting it as your goal and enter the amount you spend daily on cigarettes. iQuit shows you the amount of money you could save in the future and prompts you to enter a goal (or a reward) to work towards.
This could be something as simple as ‘I will use the money I save from not smoking to buy a new big screen TV’. To motivate you further, the app lets you set a picture of the end goal so that you are reminded of the rewards on a regular basis.
Once you set a date on which you want to start quitting this bad habit, the iQuit app stars tracking your progress and gives you constant updates on how far along you are on your journey. It shows you that in a percentage format as well in a rather more effective, monetary format.
You can see how much money you have saved and how much more you need to save before you can get your reward. It is all in all, a simple app that utilizes the age-old concept of rewarding hard work, while helping you break habits on the way.
All three apps we discussed in are available for free on iOS as well as Android. Let them help you make 2017 the best year ever.
