Laff in the Dark is a really cool site about The World of Dark Ride and Fun House Amusements. You can browse the site as HTML or Flash depending on your preferences. The Flash intro is an example of a dark ride, that is rather cleverly done, so I recommend it, but for those of you who don’t have Flash or just want to get to the meat of the site quickly choose HTML.
You can learn from this site Where to Find Dark Rides, Where to Find Fun Houses, check out the Index of Articles, About Laff in the Dark and much, much more. There are two featured articles on the home page: The Last Laff at Lake Compound and Rye Flying Witch Alert. I checked them both out and let me tell you they are fascinating. Not only do you get to learn about the rides and how they operate but you get a look at how life was before the internet and television ruled households. In the “Rye Flying Witch Alert” I recommend checking out the Flying Witch Project because you can see what makes up the ride from the coasters to the brakes and pulleys and stunts. Not only is it information but it’s a whole lot of fun too.
The “Where to Find” sections are listed in alphabetical order of the fun houses and dark rides. Should you decide to visit one of these attractions you may want to call the park and see if it is still open as the site owner says the lists aren’t current. It’s sad to see that there are only a handful of these rides operating and none of them are near me. I love fun houses! There are some dark rides I’m going to be checking out though in my area. There are even Canadian Dark Rides listed so everyone in Canada can have fun on a dark ride too.
This is a really fun site, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
