When you make a recording on your laptop, it doesn’t always sound so great. Does that mean you need to buy a professional microphone and expensive software? What If I told you that you can make professional-quality recordings sitting at home without spending a single penny? Let me show you how.
First, you need to download a free and simple software we’ve talked about before. It’s called Audacity.
It is available for all versions of Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and other operating systems. The steps covered in this article are similar to the Audacity version for other operating systems as well. As for now we will be using Audacity 2.1.1 for windows. You can download this free program by clicking here.
It’s available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Make sure you just click the links in the center of the page and not any of the download links contained in the ads on the page.
Select your preferred installer.
Then choose Save File from the pop-up.
You also need to download a small DLL file called lame_enc.dll which you can download from http://www.dlldump.com. Just open the website and click on letter ‘L’ at the bottom.
On the download page, you’ll also want to download the Lame MP3 encoder that will allow you export MP3 files. I also suggest the import/export library and that you check out some of the effects and plug-ins that are available.
You can also download the lame encoder by following these directions.
Go to http://www.dlldump.com. Just open the website and click on letter ‘L’ at the bottom.
You will see a list of dll files. Search for lame_enc.dll file. Click on the file and click on the link which says ‘Click here to download lame_enc.dll’.
Save the file to any drive or on the desktop for quick access.
To finish installing Audacity, go to your downloads file and click on the Audacity file.
Then choose Run.
Follow the instructions of the setup Wizard.
Make sure to select the desktop icon option if you want a shortcut on your desktop.
Now that we have Audacity installed, we’ll look at how to begin using it in part 2 of this article tomorrow.
