Make Text Easier To Read With Clear Type

Tuesday, May 12th, 2015 by | Filed Under: Uncategorized

Is text not displaying so well on your monitor? Windows ClearType may make it easier to read. Here’s how to use it. In the search box in your Start Menu type Adjust Clear Type text. Then click on the result. If using Windows 8.1, type in the search charm or just start typing from the start screen.

Put a check by Turn on Clear Type and then choose next.

You’ll then have the option to tune your monitor.

You’ll be walked through selecting which type style looks best to you. It’s a little bit like an eye test.

Then click finished and your text will be optimized.

Nice tip, and new to me. Will give it a try soonest.

    Great tip, thanks.

    I have an additional request.

Is it possible to adjust internet screen display color for stronger contrast? I’d like to adjust the light blue that is used as background on the internet as well as in WordPad. I’d like to permanently adjust internet text color and font size of screen display. Where is this information found?

It is like an eye text/test. Just a few print selections to improved clarity. I like the new look of words on my monitor…a worthwhile endeavor.

  4. Ernie says:

Wow… VERY impressive tweak.. Well worth the 30 seconds it took to adjust.

FINALLY!!! Super for us oldsters. Thanks!

I too, would like to know the answer to Kathy’s question……
I have worked with the contrast and brightness of the screen -but I think
the problem is in the contrast and softening of the tabs / and inactive window-AND which is
which —–border, window, active window tab….etc.
Thank you for being there…soooo many good things we’ve learned.

Thank you so much, Cynthia! I never knew you could do this : )

  8. Jean Shelton says:

Great tip. My problem is reading print (AOL URL’s for news links) that is blue… too light to see.
