Map My Retirement

Monday, September 7th, 2015 by | Filed Under: Cool Sites

Prudential brings you a handy tool to help plan your retirement. You’ll input some information, choose the location where you plan to retire, and then this handy tool will analyze that data and predict how much money it will take to live in the location that you’ve selected.

I’ve been thinking a lot about retirement and planning for the future. This is thanks to all the introduction sessions we’ve done over the past week as we ease into the semester. The question where will you be in five years keeps popping up. Some of my cohort answered it with the response of having a job with a a 401K.

I feel like the question is hard to answer, because I don’t know where I’ll be in two years when I do my job search. Will I settle down in Madison? Will I move away to pursue whatever track I pick in school? I was googling retirement options and plans when this tool cropped up among the results.

Click the Let’s Get Started button, and then you’ll either pick I know where I want to retire or help me find a place to retire. You’ll then answer a series of questions. Once you’ve done that it will either tell you how much it will cost to live monthly in the location you’ve picked, or it will show you locations with the same information to help you pick a place to retire to.

I thought this was an interesting way to get started planning retirement options, so I thought I’d share it with all of you. Go check it out for yourself today!

I tried the site and it would not let me put in MY city (population 600,000+). It would let me select 2 cities that were 30 miles away or one that was 100 miles away. The two cities that were 30 miles away the property values and cost of living is astronomical!!! Sorry, but I’m just not that impressed with Prudential’s tool if it will not give me a true representation of where I live and not some artsy fartsy community.
