Microsoft Fixes Failed Update

Wednesday, October 12th, 2016 by | Filed Under: Security Help, Windows 10

There’s been a lot of buzz about the new update policy in Windows 10. Updates are not optional. They’re just going to happen. The idea is that gradual constant updates will lead to a better operating system. But users can also experience problems. Case in point, update KB3194496. This update caused a lot of problems for some users.

For most people, the update happened with zero issues. But some users got the message that Windows couldn’t complete the updates and needed to undo the changes. The update keeps trying to install and keeps failing.

The people most likely to be affected by the issue were people who had a device as part of the Windows Insider program but later removed it.  But don’t worry, you won’t have to spend the rest of your life suffering through a continually failing update.

Microsoft has supplied a fix.  Just click here.

Then click the Download button.

The script should cure what ails your installation.

  1. Bill says:

Win 10 updates gave me lots of problems with my upgraded Win 7 computer. Disappearing start menu and USB ports that suddenly stopped working. Got them working again BUT the computer never seemed to worked right after that requiring me to do a reinstall. After several times of that I finally turned the updates off by going to services and disabling the updates. Now my computer runs just fine. I know. I can hear the lectures now on how the updates make your computer better but they didn’t in my case. I believe that’s it’s because it’s an older upgraded machine making for little “incompatibilities”. Maybe a new machine designed for Win 10 would do OK.
