Mike Stilkey Gallery

Whether art is different because of the materials or the technique used, I find that  I really love art that is unusual. The gallery I am bringing you today is fantastic, because of the use of books as a medium on which to paint or design works out of.

The gallery is easy to navigate, just choose from New Works, Book Sculptures, Past Works, or Installations to begin your journey. The galleries are setup in a slideshow style, and you use the arrows on the right side of the page to navigate through the images.

New Works/Past Works – these galleries look at the new and previous work of Mike Stilkey that are not installations or sculptures.

Book Sculptures – I love this concept. The idea of using books to build the canvas of the piece and then painting on their covers to make the image is incredibly special to me. I love the movement that it captures (particularly in the Grey Cat Creeping, the 31st image in the set).

Installations – I found these to be very impressive both structurally and conceptually. I particularly adore the piano sculpture.  I discovered Mike Stilkey through a blog post about these installations. I was instantly charmed by the pieces and headed out to see if I could find out if he had a website. I was thrilled to be able to share it with you!

Check it out today!
