OK, so all of the MS Office 2007 & 2010 users have come to deal with the fact that the menu & toolbar system is gone and in its place we have the Ribbon.
It’s a rather large “gadget” and takes quite a bit of screen space.
Many have learned to live with it “as is” but others have learned to minimize it.
What I have today is a couple of very quick ways to minimize the Ribbon.
In fact, so quick that if you chose not to minimize because you tend to flip back and forth (minimized to maximized back to minimized…) too much for the hassle, you may just change your mind.
(For those of you who are wondering why anyone would flip back and forth I’d like to offer that I’ve seen users who, when venturing into unsure territory, need to see all that a tab has to offer all the time to find their way. It’s equivalent to those users who in Office 2002 and 2003 would choose to have entire menus displayed at all times.)
Anyway… back to business.
I’m sure we’ve all found the minimized Ribbon choice using either the down arrow on the right side of the Quick Access Toolbar or by right-clicking on the ribbon.
Here are two other choices that I’d like to offer.
-Double-click on the active Ribbon tab’s name. (If you click on one that isn’t active then all you’ll do is move to the new tab.)
-Ctrl + F1
Both of these methods act as toggles so they will maximize the Ribbon if it’s currently minimized.
Yep, that’s all there is to it. Either a double-click or a two-key combination, both make maximizing screen space easier to access than ever before.
