More Info On Windows Updates

Saturday, February 13th, 2016 by | Filed Under: Security Help, Windows 10

Microsoft’s decision to make automatic updates mandatory in Windows 10 had ruffled some feathers. The company says it’s only trying to make sure that devices running Windows have the latest security and bug fixes.

To help make the process smoother and so that users understand what’s actually happening with the upgrades, Windows will now offer a Windows 10 Update History page to more thoroughly explain the changes that come along with each update.

For example, it breaks down the changes that came along with the February 9th update to Windows 10.

  • Improved installation time of updates.

  • Fixed issue with Microsoft Edge browser caching visited URLs while using InPrivate browsing.

  • Improved Silverlight performance.

  • Fixed issue that didn’t allow a Windows 10 PC to remotely configure a server.

  • Fixed issue with pictures and tables not displaying in Windows Journal.

  • Fixed security issues that could allow remote code execution when malware is run on a target system.

  • Fixed security issues in Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer 11 that could allow code from a malicious website to be installed and run on a device.

  • Fixed additional issues with Input Method Editors (IMEs), Direct Access, assigned access, peripheral device detection, barcode scanning, Windows Explorer, Internet Explorer 11, Microsoft Edge, and scripting.

  • Fixed additional security issues with .NET Framework, PDF library, Windows Journal, kernel-mode drivers, Remote Desktop, and WebDAV.

There was also a cumulative security update that addressed a serious flaw could allow for remote code execution and important updates for Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge.

  1. Robert Conley says:

The only issue I have with the “automatic updates” is that I have received 3(three), at last count, which will not install. And so, upon each restart, the PC re-cycles through them several times. Verrry irritating!!!!!!

  2. James Durham says:

If you read the first sentence “Windows will not off a Windows 10 Update History page” and then goes on to explain what a “Update Page” would read like. Is the sentence supposed to read (Windows will offer) or should it be (Windows will not offer)? Obvious Typo of some sort I would think.

  3. Doreen F. says:

James beat me to it – I echo his comment.
