IE 8 offers a variety of features that makes browsing faster, easier and even more secure. This article examines some of its more distinguishing features.
The below mentioned features make browsing faster:
You can perform your everyday browsing tasks much easier without navigating to other websites. If you simply highlight the text from any web-page and click on the blue Accelerator icon, which will appear above the selection, you can obtain driving directions, translate and define words, email content to others, search with ease and more as you can see below:
The “More Accelerators” option allows you to discover more Accelerators. You can also delete, disable or enable the same by clicking on Manage Add-ons from the Tools button.
Search & Visual suggestions:
The new search capability offers relevant suggestions as you type the search phrase, which enables you to click on any suggestion to execute the search. IE 8 is partnering with other search providers, namely Yahoo, Amazon, Bing, Wikipedia and more to offer visual suggestions that provide you with immediate answers like the ones shown below:
Better “find on page”:
The find on page toolbar is completely redesigned and searches character by character as you type the search terms. Matches are highlighted in yellow on the page and are easily identified as shown below:
Smarter Address Bar:
IE 8 will automatically recall previously visited websites. It searches across History, Favorites, and RSS Feeds displaying matched characters in blue for easy identification.
Here are features that make browsing easier:
Web Slices are a fine feature that allows you to add frequently updated sites to your Favorites bar. If this feature is available on a webpage, a green Web Slices icon appears in the Command Bar and for any new information that becomes available in the web page the Web Slices icon becomes highlighted.
Compatibility View and improved zoom:
IE 8 is a fairly new release and as such some websites are not ready for compatibility. The Compatibility View Toolbar button when clicked displays the website as viewed in IE 7.
You can maintain a list for such sites within IE 8 and you can add or remove sites from this list. Adaptive Page Zoom relays the page content and eliminates the need to scroll both left and right.
Now we can examine features that make browsing safer:
IE 8 helps to protect you from Malware and Phishing. IE 8 also protects against emerging threats that can compromise your computer without your knowledge. InPrivate Browsing and InPrivate Filtering are the techniques that help you maintain safety.
InPrivate Browsing helps you by preventing browsing history, temporary Internet files, form data cookies, usernames and passwords from being retained by the browser.
