When this came up on my dashboard on Facebook, I immediately went to check it out. It’s a gallery and video of the moving statutes called “Man and Woman” by Georgian sculptor Tamara Kvesitadze.
The statutes stand 26 feet tall and move in order to depict the love story of Ali and Nino from a popular 1937 novel by Kurban Said.
According to the artist’s website the statues are made of PVC, fiber glass, and metal. Each night at 7 p.m. they start to move until they embrace and pass through one another.
You can watch a video at the bottom of the page to watch the statues in motion. I watched it with awe as it took my breath away with its poignancy. I found myself very moved by the sense of loneliness that emanates from the piece when the statues have moved through each other.
I hope you’ll check out these amazing statues today!
